Shopping for food
Since you’ll be staying right in the heart of the Old Town, you’ll have several convenient options for shopping. These are my go-to picks:
- Spar Girona Barri Vell. Small and practical, perfect for everyday essentials.
- Nova Venda. A larger supermarket across the river, still only about a 7-minute walk.
- Queviures l’Estuca. Very small and nearby, with a nice selection of organic products.
Open markets – the fun part:
- Mercat del Lleó. Open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 14:00. Inside you’ll find fish, meat, olives, cheese, and more; outside, local farmers sell fresh vegetables. About a 10-minute walk.
- Mercat Setmanal de les Ribes del Ter (Devesa). Open only on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. Very lively, with vegetables, clothes, and a strong multicultural vibe. You’ll find many Moroccan products at great prices. It’s safe, just use normal city awareness.
